Around noon on September 23rd 2013, Microsoft has released two new tablets under its flagship Surface brand, namely Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2.

One news source stated that the tablets produced by Microsoft are impressive in terms of hardware specifications. However, without the desired growth of user base, the tablets might go downhill. We believe that it only applies to Windows RT because it runs only apps developed exclusively for it. On the other hand, Surface Pro 2 runs a full-fledged Windows 8.1 Pro, which is a desktop version of Windows. By having upgraded hardware specifications, Surface Pro 2 wil benefit from upgraded user experience, added performance and battery life thanks to Intel’s 4th generation processor, Intel Core i5 that powers Surface Pro 2.

While we are not really optimistic about Microsoft’s Surface 2 plan, we think its higher-end product, Surface Pro 2, will be a viable competitor in ~11 inch ultraportables. A slew of accessories also will put Microsoft in better spotlight as the current-generation of Surface is designed to be connected to more accessories than ever.

One of the accessories that interests us is the music production kit. It consists of a touch cover with a minor tweak, the keyboard layout now is replaced with a number of music controls. This will be appealing to musicians who have been supporting Apple ecosystem for years. While it lacks maturity as Apple’s products, Microsoft’s version of music production will surely draw enough attention from the crowd. Let us hope that this product will not be killed somewhere near future.

Another note on the availability of the accessories also makes us interested. We think probably it is due to Microsoft’s decision to gauge how much people’s reception for its products. Some of them (including the mentioned music production kit) will be available in early 2014. Lets get our fingers crossed.

Since its launch, Microsoft has remained tight-lipped for some of the detailed specifications. Therefore, only little is known about the technical specifications of the two tablets. Tempeclub has manged to gather some of them from several tech websites. We will list them down here and will continue to update this page as necessary.

All Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets will get complimentary 200 GB of Skydrive storage for 2 years.
